Indigenous peoples in the area, including Ojibway, Chippewa, Odawa, Pottawatomi, and Mohawk people from the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, have historical and ongoing connections to this land. Parry Sound is home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples.
